The benefits of the Multi-Function Earth Tester are well known and because they will measure earth resistance either in or out of circuit they have become the preferred tester by utilities and major contractors.

The only reason basic earth testers continue to exist was price – but not anymore. Sonel has once again lifted the bar by introducing a full multi-function earth tester for the price of a single function tester!

Earth testers by necessity have a hard life, outdoors in dust, heat, wind and rain.  Popular multi-function earth testers have traditionally been built tough to survive the environment, but toughness always came at a price.

These days, all instruments are imported, predominantly from the northern hemisphere where the environment is far less harsh than Australia. There is simply no need to build them to survive being driven hundreds of kilometres over corrugated roads, then used in 40°C or a dust storm! Most cannot hack it.

Sonel listened to Australian users and has produced the MRU-120HD, exclusive to Australia and New Zealand, with a robust IP65 case that squarely puts it in the sights of utilities and large contractors but at a price that will bring a smile to their accountants!

Full Grunt

When it comes to earth testers, test current has always separated the professional models from the “toys”. Some deliver a few paltry milliamps while the serious professional models can pump out in excess of 200mA. The MRU-120HD is up there with the best with an impressive 50V, 200mA output.

All the Necessary Functions

The MRU-120HD has all the capabilities to measure all earth networks comprising;

  • Soil Resisitivity directly in Ω-m by entering the stake spacing up to 50m.
  • 4-pole Earth Resistance of isolated electrodes
  • Selective Earth Resistance of in-service electrodes without isolation
  • Stakeless Earth Resistance on in-service electrodes where is not possible to run test stakes
  • 2-pole bonding resistance from 10mΩ

Standard Kit or Design Your Own

The Sonel is available with a basic kit to enable it to be used immediately without the need to source accessories. The standard accessory kit comprises:

  • 1 x 50m test lead
  • 2 x 25m test leads
  • 2 x 4m connecting leads with crocodile clips
  • 4 x 300mm test stakes
  • Carry bag
  • Mains charger
  • Sonel Reader Software & USB cable

Options comprise the Measurement and Induction Clamps for Selective and Stakeless measurement. For users with more demanding applications, the standard kit can be modified or upgraded with fully customised accessories.

Complete Customisation

In common with all earth testers distributed by Pacific Test Equipment, the MRU-120HD can be fully user customised with accessories including test leads up to 300m, heavy duty stainless steel helical, extra-long 800mm test stakes to penetrate sand or gravel, bridging leads for stakeless testing of HV transformer earthing and super-size carry bag.

As with all Sonel products, the MRU-120HD is covered by a 2-year warranty and is serviced locally in Australia by Pacific Test Equipment.
